School started this year 1st of November and then they promptly had a 4 day Water Festival Holiday…so the official first day of school was on the 6th. All dressed up in their new clothes and sporting new shoes and backpacks, they were off!
Our former preschoolers all ready for this big change!
Who could ask for a better classmate than your HUGE big brother.
Our class 3 has grown!
Our very studious class 4.
Class 5 is feeling (and looking) older – seems a big jump from 4 to 5.
And last but not least our class 6, knowing in another year they will be getting those new bikes and trekking on to high school!
I will probably never get a photo of the high school boys, but was able to snap one of the girls.
There are a few faces missing as Mr. Heang and Miss Channy both decided that trade school was a better fit than high school. Heang just started a course in refrigerator/AC repair and Channy is more than half way through her hair styling/make up course. Both are happy and because they have siblings at Opot, they call and visit often.
Miss Srey Mohn was reintegrated back into her family after an extensive home study was completed by our director, Dara, and a local social services representative. They are satisfied that her former family situation had changed for the better and after 6 months back home, she is happy and doing well in the 6th grade. We will continue to do regular family check-ups as the year goes on.
And Vandy and Kunty both finished the 12th grade and have entered into our Youth in Transition Program and are living and going to university in Phnom Penh.
Thanks for checking in and for the continued support!
