Final update on Ann Marie
She gave us a scare after developing the fever and the doctor said she would have to be hospitalized for IV therapy. They had started her on heavy doses of antibiotics and ARV medicine when she tested positive for HIV and that started a fungus infection in her mouth. We had lost other babies in the same way and for that reason we were all very happy to have her returned to us on Tuesday afternoon… back to her old self. In the evening she had difficulty taking her ARV medicine and vomited four times but calmed down when given her bottle and had a good nights sleep. In the morning she did much better taking her medicine but than an hour later she slipped into a comma and quietly left us.
The children were called from school and Luak Phos led us in the funeral service… it has been awhile since our last death but everyone still knows the routine. They stop being children, for just a few moments, and take on the role of adults… praying one of their own through to that which lies beyond the veil.
They accompaied her on the final steps of her journey to the crematorium… and then ran off to be the children that they are.

Her little soul has left us. Ann-Marie has been in my mind and heart so much since your last email,I was fortunated and blessed to hold her in my arms, even for a short time. I will finish the painting I started of her in Wat Opot, her little face surrounded by a lotus flower.
love to you, Wayne, Mark and all of the Wat Opot family, Marijke
It is so sad to hear about Ann Marie, especially because she seemed to be fighting to live… may she rest in peace!! I think it is unbelieveble how the kids handle the death, how strong they are… My thoughts are with you!!
So very sad to hear about Ann Marie. My thoughts are with everyone who had the pleasure to know her during her short stay on this earth.

So sorry to hear that the newest Watopotian angel has left us so soon. She seend like a real fighter but I guess she missed her Mum too much. So she is now re-united with her in a happy place, R.I.P

Sorry to hear the news. Though I seldom check in on this website, I treasure the memories of my visit to Wat Opot. May Ann Marie find a good rebirth.
Hello everybody, hello Wayne and Marc… Yesterday, coincidentally i got that terrible message about Ann Marie’s last steps in her life!!! Actually, i’m so shocked and sad. Never I thought and expected it what’s happend, how sad a fate!!! During my visite an stay in watopot I took care of little Ann Marie, day after day. I worke as a male pediatric intensive care nurse in switzerland and I lost some kids at the ICU. Everytime when I accompanied deadly sick kids I could cry…
calm greeting

I am shocked to hear about little Ann Maries death. Though I saw her getting stronger when I left I believed that she would make it.
It makes me sad. But at least all the very short time of her life she found love and care.
