Measles!
29 November, 2009
For the past three weeks we have been battling high fevers, swollen and inflamed eyes, coughs, and rashes, which we diagnosed as Measles. Altogether 30 of our children were affected, some more severe than others.
Fortunately we have had Caroline Broissand here from England to oversee the treatment and care of the children. She is a Registered Nurse and is volunteering with us for a month.
A couple of days ago the Public Health Department found out about it and so they came to check us out. They gave everyone a capsule of Vitamin A and recorded their temperatures. That part was easy …
But than came the test for the H1N1 Flu Virus.
It will be about a month before we get the results back… hopefully the Virus, what ever it is, will be only a bad memory by that time.

Oh My goodness!! What an outbreak to have…… Hoping all the children have coped alright with this….but also how is Wayne and Caroline fearing and who ever else had long hours with sick children……….
Thinking of you all

Also is Tey Meng (hope spelt right)doing alright with having the measels……..is she on the anit viral medication yet?? She does not look so good in the photo you have posted….. I do worry about her and look forward to seeing her on my next visit to Wat Opot next year.
Hi Fiona,
We are doing okay now… but it has been difficult. Fortunately for us most of the kids just turned themselves off and slept through it. Ty Meng is not on ARV’s yet but is recovering. She still has a bad cough but the fevers are done. Thanks for your concern.
Hi Wayne, sorry to hear about the measles outbreak,Ty Meng looks so sick, little girl, love to give her a cuddle again.I hope the worst is over for you,it must be a worry with so many children sick. Thinking of you all, Marijke
Hi Wayne
I know it is far too long since we have been in touch and that photo of poor wee ty meng made me feel so sad. We wanted to send a christmas parcel but you are in the best postion to know what the childen need it would be lovely if they could have something special at christmas from the money i have donated via pay pal i just want them to know we have not forgotten them but the year has just slipped by and i was really disappointed with the lack of response to have an article published Please tell shrey leak that briony loved her ear rings and a letter is on the way. Certainly think lots about you all and spoke last week to a church group with Craig Green who wrote the urban halo and lived and worked among the Cambodian people – we treasure our time with you all lots of love jena and briony
