The kids have been playing with the copper wire we purchase locally for some time now and most can make earrings, but the original wire jewelry crafters, trained by Princess Fiona, are grown and only a few remain. So it was time to start again!
In the past the kids have made non-jewelry items using wire such as these cute little spiders – click here and these wire trees (photo). Both projects taught the kids to be creative as well as dispelled their unnecessary fears about working with it (No more “I don’t know how to do wire”).
With time on our hands, classes in making wire jewelry were organized. Working in small groups they were taught how to cut small equal lengths of wire for the links instead of cutting as you go. It was explained that doing it this way is more tedious, but in the end your bracelets are uniform in size and the wire waste is cut way down.
As they made fun of Melinda’s choice of music in the background (there’s only so much a person can take of K-Pop!), they commenced to crafting works of art.
with looks of determination, they kept on going…
and their jewelry started taking shape!
Some of the finished products by our beginners!
And some that now have new homes in the USA! (from our more experienced crafters)
