Greetings from the Wat Opot Community
From a recent Facebook post by our Director Dara;
-Due to COVID 19, the children are helping out around the property. Working hard to raise and feed animals which helps keep down food costs and also makes us money. Thank you, children, for your hard work. Because of Covid-19, we are not getting much funding for Opot, so one thing we can do is plant our own vegetables and raise chickens, ducks, and cows to cut some of our spendings, thanks to all the children for helping us.-
Dara and the children planted all of this in just a couple of days. It is more than we will need so the neighbors will buy any that we don’t use. They see Dara and the children planting and watering every day and know that our cows provide most of the fertilizer, NO CHEMICALS.
We also raise our own chickens, ducks, and rabbits, and we are trying to raise some turkeys as well. We bought two when they were young but each turned out to be a tom and so we just recently got a hen… but it turned out to be a considerable problem for the toms who were continually fighting and thereby preventing each other from getting to the new hen. We solved that problem, however, with a turkey curry over rice noodles on Christmas Day.
The recent birth of two new calves brings our herd to six again… because we have a lot of grass on and around our property they cost us very little and can bring in several hundred dollars when sold.
Thanks for stopping in… looking forward to the day some of you can come to visit us again.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
