This painting, done by some of our older children, welcomes visitors to our Community. It seems a little strange at first, to most of our visitors, until I explain its meaning. The white squiggly things that are floating around represent the free spirits of the children running and playing, mostly unattended, but always under the watchful eyes of the loving guardians. The Lotus flower represents Purity, the Dove represents Peace, and the leaf represents the death of our loved ones but also the health and vitality of our children today because of medicines and nutritious meals. It is the free spirits of the children that I would like to show you today.
There is always something going on somewhere on campus and usually many things at the once. We have volunteers who come and go and some bring wit them special skills while others just go with what the children come up with.
Petanque is a French game played with hollow metal balls. Two or four people can play this game and it is very popular with the older kids and staff.
A game played with rubber bands is also very popular… but it requires a great deal of talent.
For obvious reasons I stick to riding a bicycle instead of joining them on this game.
The same rubber bands can be used for a jump rope which is also a very popular game.
And we now have a miniature basketball court with plans to build a regular size court once the dirt gets moved in around the fence.
There is always a football or volleyball game going on.
Red Rover-Red Rover is also a fun game to play when visitors come.
And often we play the Balloon Stomp game or the I LOVE YOU game in the meeting hall when we have visitors, if it is to hot or raining outside.
Of course there is always wrestling…
And it is even more fun when you can do it over water.
Some days it is just to hot to do anything but swim.
Of course with 50 kids so active there are always going to be accidents that even the most watchful eyes cannot prevent… but we seldom have anything serious happen because the children have been given the responsibility to look after themselves and each other…
and they do a great job of it.
